If

If… I had a guild event and made it open to anyone who could roll on a US server, would you come?

If… This event were held in Vent and all you had to do was join the Effers on an alt and fish from pools while answering Jeopardy-style questions (or is that question Jeopardy-style answers???) about WoW, would you come?

If… The prize were either gold (on Azuremyst, natch) or, for one super smart and quick-on-the-draw person, a mini pet purchased by me from the Blizzard store and sent to you, would you come?

If… The aforementioned event took place on a non Effer raid night and you did want to come, which night would you prefer? (see poll for casting a vote, leave preferred times as a comment or twit at me or whatever)

If… This event goes well on any level and you were interested in doing something similar for your guild, would you remember that I don’t bite and email me to ask for my questions and categories spreadsheet? (Because I would totally share)

I hope the intent is clear here. We need to work on our guild fishing so we might obtain the new fish feast. But since fishing bores many people, myself unabashedly included, I thought I would do what I could to spice things up. I will be holding three rounds of full Jeopardy boards, making for 90 questions total. Contestants must be in the guild, in Vent and fishing from pools to play. A sum of gold will be attached to each question and answer, but to give an incentive to “out of town” players, I will purchase a mini pet for the person who wins the most gold and is just visiting for the event.

Questions, comments or snarky remarks? You know where to leave ‘em.

Edited to add: My poll addon is being very FAIL right now. I am working on it, but am okay with hearing in the comments which days/times work while I am trying to get that working. /kicks poll plugin and then calls Zel for HALP.

Second Edit: I have FIRED WP-Polls and the new one works. Carry on.

  1. Pretty clever idea. You scratch my back, I scratch yours; an exchange of service (so to speak) and a party to boot. Well done. I wish you much success.

  2. I’d do it if I could roll on US Servers :/

That said though, does it work? It doesn’t require people to be honored with the guild like it does for a lot of other achievments to count?

    • Even if a character is neutral, the fishing counts towards the guild’s overall count of fish pulled from pools. I think you do have to have a certain rep to be able to purchase the recipe though.

  3. My guild copied Crits & Giggles and did a fishing tourney. We should have the 10k today. We had like 6 or 7 people participate and managed to do it in 2 weeks.

I hope this works for you and you guys get those fish! :D

I found that the coast of STV is FANTASTIC for pools. The Crystalsong river under Dalaran is another great pool fishing spot. If you are high enough to get into Deepholm the pools of Albino Cavefish are nice too.

    Good luck again!

  4. I’ll be there (er, of course) unless it turns out to be on an unworkable evening for me.

I was going to chime in with snarky remarks, but I’ve just been writing fiction from the perspective of an elderly dwarf lady, and I find I’m all snarked out. Damn!

  5. As someone who helped fish a whole buttload of fish from pools for my guild, I’d be eilling to help out for sure! I’d be one of those strangers that would come for the game moreso than the gold/pet. So my unavailable nights are Tuesday/Thursday/Sunday due to my own guild raids. But count me in just for the fun factor!!

  6. Sorry for a double post, but something occured to me while I was doing the dishes.

Anyone whoh rolls fresh on your server in order to participate should level to at least 15 to participate (preferrably 20). The achievment requires fish to be drawn from pools. The lowest level areas with pools are the secondary levelling zones (Loch Modan, Darkshore, Westfall/Redrige). These zones will spawn Sagefish Schools.

I recommend levelling to 20 in order get mounted and reduce travel time between pools.

    • I was thinking that DK’s might be a good option for people new to the server. There are several benefits. But yes, a very good point! Horses, a higher level character (and water walking, for that matter) will certainly be a boon!

      • If only we had access to a mage to teleport us eager baby fisherman to a nice, safe pool-filled location and watch over us! ;)

        • I don’t know about porting, but I can fly people around or give em a lift on my mammoth. :D

  7. My new guild raids Tuesday/Wednesday, so those are out for me. But any other day of the week I’d totally come and help the Effers out :D

  8. *grumbles about Blizzard and regions*

(But it’s an awesome idea! Maybe we need to do something similar to get people fishing.)

    • I know. I really wish Blizz would do something to fix it.

On the flip side, any of us here in the US who want to could conceivably just emcee for a European event. I was tempted to ask someone to emcee my event so I could fish and play too…. but then who would come up with the boards? Anyhow, as soon my event is over, anyone who wants my prep work is more than welcome to it.

  9. Sundays would be best for me (could stay up extra late fishing!) but I could do any night I don’t work. Just let me know!

Does the Find Fish ability still require the book that used to drop from trunks fished up in Stranglethorn? Having a few folks around with fish-tracking turned on can also help a lot.

    • Find Fish does still require a book. You have to have 75 fishing skill to catch the trunks the books spawn in, and 100 fishing skill to actually use the book. I fished up mine from a Sagefish pool in the lake surrouding Astranaar.
